Sir,
Woolworths is the reason I came to love Tenby and the surrounding area. I was sent down here from Staffordshire in 1975, and what a fantastic adventure I had. The powers that be at F. W. Woolworth did me a great favour when they 'posted' me to Tenby.
Woolworths and Tenby have so many happy memories for me. The manager at the time gave me an appetite for retailing I've kept with me through all my working life. We had wonderful staff, all of whom made me very welcome. Especially the ladies in the staff canteen, who always had 'tea and toast' ready for a starving trainee who was a long way from home. It was a great place to work, and a very popular meeting place, as it has been right up until today.
I made many friends at Woolies and we always seemed to be having a good laugh, even though it was very long hours and hard work. One Saturday lad I made a particular good friend of. So much so, his parents put me up in their spare room at their house in St. Florence and what extremely kind people they were. Home from home.
After many holidays, weekends and attempts to move down, I finally managed it in 2004 - almost 30 years after my love affair with Tenby began.
I just hope whatever moves into that spot in Tenby, is somewhere families can meet and look forward to going there. It is very important to Tenby that this happens.
Happy times and memories.
