Tavernspite CP School welcomed Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies AM and Conservative Welsh Assembly Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Angela Burns AM to the school in the run-up to the forthcoming Welsh Government elections.

Mrs. Angela Burns, who has recently worked closely with the school, visited with Andrew RT Davies to explore the views of the senior leadership team on their vision for education in Wales.

Tavernspite School is widely recognised as a high performing school and its leaders have clear opinions on safeguarding education within Wales through effective recruitment, retainment and in encouraging the best practitioners to enter the profession.

At the school, headteacher Kevin Phelps, deputy headteacher, Sarah Arthur and senior manager, Adam Lopez spent time in discussion with Angela Burns and Andrew RT Davies to share their views and hope, at least in some small way, to have shaped the future of education in Wales.

Following the discussion, the politicians enjoyed a tour around the school, visited the classes and school council members.

Headteacher Kevin Phelps said: “It was a very enjoyable meeting and a pleasure to welcome Andrew RT Davies and Angela Burns to our school. They were certainly interested in our opinions and in the views of the children.”
