Stepaside C.P. School were delighted recently to be awarded the Bronze award of the Cymraeg Campus Language Charter for promoting and increasing the use of Welsh at the school.
The school began the Cymraeg Campus language charter in July 2017 and has been led by a dedicated Welsh coordinator and Criw Cymraeg.
The school has kept clear photographic evidence to support their progress in each of the ten targets using notes, photographic and video evidence.
The school has made significant progress in the provision for Welsh for pupils since beginning the bronze award journey and has succeeded in meeting the success criteria for each target in the award. The school has now been recommended to begin to work towards the silver award.
Mr Harries, the Headteacher, would like to thank all pupils and staff for all their hard work. He would particularly like to thank the Criw Cymreag for all their hard work in promoting the Welsh language.
The whole school would like to thank Miss Tidd the Welsh Second Language Coordinator for the huge amount of work that she has put in to achieve this wonderful award.
Families leap at the opportunities on offer!
Springboard has got off to a flying start at Stepaside CP School with its launch fayre attracting a packed crowd of adults and children keen to engage in all the project has to offer.
At the Fayre parents and children had the opportunity to engage in Lego Robotics, Slow Stop Animation, Jewellery making, Face Painting, cake decorating, card making and Pottery. And every activity pulled in a great crowd of enthusiastic participants keen to learn new skills.
The Head teacher, Mr Harries was thrilled to see the event so well attended. “It’s fantastic to see so many families making the most of this opportunity. We are excited to see the involvement of many of our families in the classes over the coming weeks and months.”
The launch event and all the Springboard Family activities that will run in Stepaside CP School this academic year has been made by possible by an Awards for All grant that the school secured from Big Lottery. Through this fund, the school will be in a position to offer free family activities to all age groups in the school every Tuesday from now to the end of the academic year.
Tracy Crew, the Springboard Advisor who will be supporting families on all the Springboard activities at Stepaside was really impressed by the level of enthusiasm everyone showed for the Springboard project at the Fayre. “Parents and grandparents alike can’t wait to get started!”she said.
Laura Phillips, Springboard Coordinator, said that she is really pleased to see another school recognise the importance of Family learning and form a partnership with Springboard to deliver a programme of excellent quality, engaging and fun family workshops.
Springboard is a Learning Pembrokeshire project working now in 10 Primary schools across mid and south Pembrokeshire from Tenby to Gelliswick and Pembroke to Mary Immaculate.
