A NEW S4C series will explore the trials and tribulations facing newly-qualified teachers at the start of their careers.
Athrawon (a Carlam production for S4C) will follow eight NQTs in five schools across Wales over a year.
The six-part series of hour-long episodes offers an insight into the classroom as the newbies get to grips with their responsibilities.
Fly-on-the-wall cameras will provide an honest picture of the reality facing schools today.
The series, which has received support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, will broadcast in September, to coincide with the new school year.
The commission was announced at the National Urdd Eisteddfod, one of the largest youth festivals in Europe.
Llinos Wynne, S4C’s Head of Docs and Specialist Factual said: “Athrawon is an important series which shines a light on the vital work of teachers in mentoring, educating and shaping future generations.
“It’s a series that looks beyond recent headlines around the challenges in terms of teacher recruitment and retention in Wales.
“The education sector is key in ensuring a flourishing future for Wales and the Welsh language and S4C is very grateful to the schools for the cooperation on this series.
“It’s a timely series which offers a fresh insight into the education system through colourful characters, humour, empathy and honesty.”
More details about the schools and teachers featuring in the series will be released at a later date.
