Carmarthenshire County Council has continued to shine a light on Foster Care Fortnight, acknowledging the vital role of foster carers, celebrating their contributions.

County Hall was lit up in purple on the evening of Sunday, May 24 to mark the end of Foster Care Fortnight, which began on Monday, May 11, and to show appreciation for foster carers across Carmarthenshire.

Throughout the fortnight, the Foster Wales Carmarthenshire team has been busy attending information events across the county, meeting local people, sharing real stories and highlighting the support available for foster carers. The team also hosted events for local foster carers, including one of their regular support groups and a wellbeing walk along the coastal path.

Children and young people from local fostering families also took part in The Fostering Network’s art competition.

One of the pieces was created by Roxy, aged 7. Roxy is non-verbal, has complex needs and uses symbols to support her communication, which her artwork beautifully reflects.

A spokesperson for Carmarthenshire Council said: “We would like to thank partners for sharing the message and supporting fostering all year around.

“From discounted or free entry to activities, to sharing events and raising awareness, this support helps foster families feel welcomed, valued and included within their communities.”

Cllr. Jane Tremlett, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services and Children and Families, said: “It has been lovely to see the creativity of children and young people from our fostering families. We would like to thank foster carers for encouraging and supporting them to take part, and to thank the organisations who continue to support fostering across Carmarthenshire.”
