A local councillor has praised a vibrant new mega-mosaic at one of Tenby’s primary schools - and urged everyone to go along to see it when it is officially unveiled after the summer.
A project to create a colourful mosaic on the main facade of the Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School on Heywood Lane, has seen staff, pupils, parents and members of the public working with ‘Springboard - Learning Pembrokeshire’ and local artist Paul Webb to complete the ambitious artistic design.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council, Clr. Mrs. Tracey Evans, who is also a governor at the school told her fellow councillors that the mosaic looked ‘amazing’ now it has been finished.
“Please come and have a look at it when it’s officially unveiled - it really is so beautiful and spectacular - and stands out,” she said.
“It would be great if we could do something similar in other parts of Tenby, the train station for instance. That could really do with something like this mosaic, to make it more welcoming.
“Perhaps we could look into it and explore some funding avenues for such a project,” added Clr. Mrs. Evans.
The school’s headteacher John Palmer recently said that the mosaic project was something that they’d had in mind since opening the school, when they realised that the large roadside facade was going to be a very stark and plain feature.
“I hope the mosaic will be a source of pride to the town for years to come,” he commented.
“Our school logo is unmistakably Tenby through and through, so what better image for passers-by to enjoy!
“We want this fabulous artwork to put a smile on the faces of everyone who travels past our school for many years to come,” he added.
