On a beautifully warm Easter Saturday, the annual Easter craft workshop was held in Church House. This event, under the guidance of Sunday Club leader, Nan Dowell, is held for the benefit of children who attend Sunday Club and any other children visiting our seaside town. In all, 36 young people spent a very happy and productive few hours constructing a wide variety of models, cards and edible goodies, all with a special Easter theme. By the end of the session, Church House resembled a paper factory which had been subjected to a tornado! However, the hands of many willing helpers soon sorted out the turmoil and, after a short prayer session, the youngsters left clutching their many treasures. Invaluable support was provided to Nan all morning by Lindy, Pam, Norma, Myra, Mary and Jay, to whom every thanks are expressed. St. Mary's Church was filled almost to capacity on Easter Sunday for the traditional service of praise and thanksgiving, in order to acknowledge the joy and hope given to us all in the reality of the Risen Lord. Magnificent floral arrangements delighted the congregation, from beautiful individual displays and window sill daffodils to the sophisticated and atmospheric Easter garden on the altar steps. Sincere thanks are due to the church flower ladies for their constant dedication and green-fingered expertise. On Easter Monday, the Mothers' Union held a highly successful bazaar and raised an excellent amount for MU funds through the sale of teas, coffees and homemade cakes and the revenue from a table-top sale. On Sunday last (April 27), benefice members were treated to further culinary pleasures at the hands of the talented Soupermen team. A delicious three-course meal was expertly prepared and served and those present enjoyed a relaxing evening of good food and wine, good company and Rector Andrew's rather unconventional management of the raffle! Few diners realised that they were to be offered the chance to win an out of date copy of Yellow Pages or the Diocese Directory, along with many other (much better) prizes! As always, we are indebted to the Soupermen for their constant enthusiasm and dedication to the cause of high quality dining.
