The much anticipated 10th Annual Pancake Race for Tenby in aid of the RNLI is to be held on Tuesday, February 18, in Tudor Square.

All are welcome to attend the event which kicks-off at 12 noon, with prizes to be won on the day - don’t forget your frying pan!

Members of the Tenby RNLI Fundraising committee are looking forward to the much anticipated races for children and adults. There will even be a race for chefs if we can get them to come out of their kitchens! And of course it all culminates in the not to be missed crew race. Entries will be accepted from 11 am and for anyone who forgets their pancakes and pans, there will be spares! To celebrate the 10th birthday of this popular event the organisers are delighted that Tenby’s own 'Bake-Off Queen', Michelle Evans-Fecci has agreed to come along to start the races. So come along and make it a morning to remember while raising money for a great causeAfterwards why not stroll along to the Boathouse on Castle Hill and take a look in the RNLI shop which will be open for the season from Saturday, February 15.The annual general meeting of the RNLI fundraising committee was held recently at Tenby Sailing Club. Due to the unavoidable absence of the president, Shan Thomas, chairman, Nicole Evans welcomed everyone and opened the proceedings. She began by asking members to stand in memory of three supporters of the RNLI who had passed away during the year. These included two hardworking shop volunteers, Anne Badham and Rob Norris. She also sent the good wishes of the meeting to president Shan and secretary, Jayne for speedy recoveries.

She then introduced Julie Sanby, RNLI communities manager, and welcomed her to the meeting after which the minutes of the last AGM were read by Chris Moore and approved by the meeting.

In her chairman’s report, Nicole began by thanking the members of the committee for the extraordinary effort they had made over the year-and-a-half since the last AGM. From Fish Suppers, the Pancake Day Races, strawberry teas, coffee mornings, and street collections, committee members had been in evidence working hard or shaking buckets, all committed to raising more funds for our hardworking lifeboat and crew.

She thanked, in particular, Tenby Male Choir for their continued support - their concert is always the highlight of the summer. She also thanked Linzi Sellers for so graciously opening the White House on the Harbour for a delightful and for some, nostalgic, coffee morning in June. Special mention was made of the amazing Tasting Night, held at The Salt Cellar at the end of 2018 when over £5,000 was raised. She also singled out The Qube Restaurant where all enjoyed a revival of the ever-popular Fish Supper, and where we hold our committee meetings while enjoying a convivial lunch.

Nicole thanked everyone involved in organising and supporting all these events, and she paid tribute to the awesome Doreen Mortimer and her shop staff whose efforts mean that Tenby RNLI shop is the second most profitable in Britain. Her personal thanks were extended to president Shan who is steeped in Lifeboat and a superb leader for our hard-working team. Finally, she paid tribute to the dedicated crew members who continue to save lives at sea throughout the year, and still manage to support many of the fundraising events. She ended by wishing everyone continued success for the future.

Treasurer, Liz Green reported on an excellent year financially with over £11,000 being raised by events, almost £6,000 from collecting boxes in town and over £31,000 from boxes and other collections in the Boathouse. Nicole expressed our gratitude to Liz for her hard work and efficiency in keeping and presenting these accounts over the year.

Doreen Mortimer then reported on another excellent year at the shop and she thanked all the shop volunteers for their hard work and dedication.

The officers and committee were then re-elected; these are: president - Shan Thomas, chairman - Nicole Evans, vice-Chairman and Minute secretary - Jayne Hughes, correspondence secretary -Chris Moore, assistant treasurer - Liz Green, events organiser - Althea Shaw; committee - Jan Evans, Barbara Pegg, Julia Dashfield, Julie Jenkins, Sylvie Morgan, Ray Lowe. Two new members were welcomed to the committee, namely Sarah Waring and Linzi Sellers, and everyone looked forward to working with them over the year.

Communities manager Julie Sanby congratulated the whole committee on their excellent effort throughout the year and expressed her pleasure at being able to join them at their AGM.

The meeting began and ended with coffee courtesy of Dai Ellis at the Sailing Club, and delicious home-made scones and cream for which we thank Doreen Mortimer. Thanks were extended to the Commodore and committee of Tenby Sailing Club for allowing us to use their pleasant and comfortable premises.
