So moved have nine local businesses been at the story of 11-year-old Tenby lad Daniel Burrows and his brave battle against cancer, that they have donated £2,250 to the fund to send him on a dream holiday.

Tenby Junior School pupil Daniel, of 13 Knowling Mead, is currently undergoing treatment for a second rare form of cancer, having already beaten another form of the disease as a toddler.

Parents Danny and Cheryl, together with other members of the family, are currently hard at work trying to raise funds to send him on a holiday of a lifetime to Give Kids a World in Florida when his treatment ends.

Also money will be needed to provide for Daniel after his treatment to ensure that he can live life as normally as possible.

On hearing the plucky youngster's tale, Andrew Price Hair, Connections, Tom Goddard and Sons, Camrose, Prince's Gate Spring Water, Big Brums, Seaview, Tenby House Hotel, the Bush Inn, Tenby and S. C. Welch and Son all agreed to donate £250 each to the fund.

"Most of us have children ourselves and we just felt like giving this brave lad a boost," said Andrew Price on behalf of the businesses involved.

'PURPLE UMBRAS'

The tale of the secretive Mauve Shadow, whose anonymous donation of £250 to the fund was recounted in our last issue, has prompted another mysterious benefactor.

When reporter Andrew Davies arrived at work on Monday morning he found a brown envelope addressed to him which had been hand delivered some time over the weekend.

Inside was a covering letter from a husband and wife who - in a nod to the Mauve Shadow - styled themselves 'The Purple Umbras', another letter addressed to Daniel's Mum and Dad and £100 in cash.

In their letter - typed so that the Observer would not recognise any handwriting - The Purple Umbras explained that they were so moved by the story and the Mauve Shadow's generosity that they, too, decided that they would like to make a contribution towards sending Daniel on his dream holiday.

"What a splendid idea 'Mauve Shadow' had," said the letter. "May many other Tenby folk follow Mauve Shadow's excellent example.

"As expectant grandparents we understand the special love for family youngsters. Our prayers and best wishes go with Daniel and both of you."

Local youngsters from the Hines School of Irish Dancing will also be holding a special fund-raising event for the Daniel Burrows fund tomorrow (Saturday) when they will be performing on Saundersfoot harbour car park from 3.30 pm and holding a bucket collection.

PHOBIA

FUND-RAISER

A young Tenby mother will be confronting one of her greatest phobias next month in a bid to raise funds for Daniel.

Twenty-three-year-old Joni Whitfield, of Heywood Court, has an acute fear of butterflies, but will be facing her demons by visiting the Felinwynt Rainforest and Butterfly Centre, near Aberporth, on August 21, to raise money for Daniel.

She can be contacted on 07973268264.
