Sir,
'Disneyfication' was not Tenby Civic Society view of the St. Catherine's proposals, as the Observer and the Western Telegraph reported. It was others who described it so.
The Civic Society discussed St. Catherine's thoroughly at annual general meetings and in a questionnaire last year, so the balance of members views were put carefully to the Park planners. For example, if sale of alcohol, late opening and the bridge were removed from the scheme the majority of members views shift from refusal to approval.
This scheme is controversial; half our members liked the bridge itself, half did not; so the public exchange of solely 'pro' or solely 'anti' lists are not representative, nor are they worthy of a wonderful location, or a wonderful town. We need detailed negotiation to get good neighbour thinking and a long term, practical, compromise scheme, as in the local consultation for the Gatehouse site.
Harry Gardiner,
Chairman,
Tenby Civic Society
The Glebe,
Tenby.
