The congregation, which included visitors from Ebbw Vale and Caerphilly, were welcomed by Mrs. Phyllis Duffett, who also led the service of worship. Mr. David Kinnard operated a power-point to screen the words of the selected hymns, which were played on the piano by Mrs. Ann Pattenden and accompanied on the bongo-bongos by Mr. Frank Howard, with Mr. Brian Parry on the guitar. Phyllis read about the dry bones in Ezekiel, chapter 37, and there was a time set aside for Open Prayer. Our visiting preacher was Rev. Geraint Michael, who had travelled from St. David's. He announced that the message was entitled 'God's expectations over our lives'. Geraint read about the Armour of God in Ephesians, chapter 6, verses 10 to 20, and informed us that each Roman soldier paid a deposit for his set of armour. He reckoned that the difference between veteran saints and timid believers is knowing that our faith is defended. We were reminded that quite often when town walls were destroyed, instead of being rebuilt, they were left in ruins. It was reassuring to learn that in the day of judgement, the believer's main defence is not to reply upon any good deeds we may have done, but trust solely upon the Righteousness of Christ. Before the closing hymn, Brian sang a song that he had composed about Faith. Following the Benediction, members of the congregation went downstairs into our Church Hall where light refreshments were provided. Each Thursday, we meet for prayer at 2.30 pm in our Church Hall. This Sunday, May 4, we welcome Mr. Norman Gilbert, who is due to take the service at 10.45 am. For further details, please telephone (01834) 843392.
