MANY historical events happened in 1916. The Battle of the Somme, Monet painted his famous 'Water Lilies' and dedicated Cancer Research UK fund-raiser, Mrs. Joyce Mawdsley was born! Tenby woman Joyce has been volunteering her time for Cancer Research UK for over 30 years now, and the team of the Cancer Research UK shop at Brecknock House, Tudor Square, couldn't wait to celebrate her 90th birthday with her and thank her for her loyalty and support. Joyce originally started volunteering when she joined the local fund-raising committee in 1975, then known as Cancer Research Campaign. At that time, the committee used to sell bits and pieces from someone's front room! However, in 1990, the charity opened their shop at Brecknock House, Tudor Square, Tenby, and Joyce has volunteered there ever since. Tenby shop manager, Julia King Thomas, said: "Joyce's dedication and support is an inspiration to us all. She has been a staunch supporter of Cancer Research UK for over 30 years now, which is an amazing length of time, and at 90-years-old, her commitment is staggering." Julia continued: "Joyce is an absolutely wonderful lady, and I know that I can call on her at any time, and she'll always be there. In the seven years that I have been working at the shop, Joyce has been one of my biggest supporters. On behalf of Cancer Research UK, I would like to thank her for everything that she has done."
