The Fanfarenzug Stadt Bergen (Bergen Town Band) and officials of Bergen Council visited Pembroke Dock and Pembroke between Thursday, August 30, and Sunday, September 2, to commemorate 30 years of the twinning agreement between the respective towns. On Friday, the band marched along Main Street to Pembroke Castle, bringing the street to a standstill with their vibrant brand of music, and following a reception at Pembroke Town Hall they gave an impromptu performance outside the Town Hall. During the reception, Clr. Clive Collins was awarded the Bergen 'Medal of Honour' by Burgermeister (Mayor) Rainer Prokop in recognition of his work in forging links between the two towns. That evening, the band, which has 20 members between six and 18, performed at The Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock, where they played music to suit all tastes, ranging from Mamma Mia to Amazing Grace. The packed and appreciative audience was also treated to an accomplished performance by the newly-formed Voices of Pembroke Choir, who will shortly be visiting Pembroke, Malta. On Saturday morning, the band gave another performance to visitors and shoppers in Pembroke, before enjoying a guided tour of Pembroke Castle. This was followed by a reception in Pembroke Dock, where a twinning agreement between Bergen and Pembroke Dock was signed. The party then visited Freshwater West and Stack Rocks, where they were impressed by the natural beauty of South Pembrokeshire, with a number of hardy members venturing into the chilly water! After a very hectic few days, Sunday was spent at leisure by visiting Tenby and Saundersfoot, where the youngsters in particular, enjoyed exploring the delights that Tenby has to offer. After the visit, the chairman of the twinning committee, Clr. Aden Brinn, commented: "The party thoroughly enjoyed their short and hectic visit to Pembrokeshire and appreciated the hospitality extended to them. "Having established so many friendships during the weekend, we hope that we can build on this and arrange similar visits in the future. "I would like to thank everyone that helped to make the visit such a huge success."
