When entering Tenby, visitors to the town, or indeed residents, might be curious to know who originally planted the wonderfully welcoming daffodils that greet you on the way in.
Back in 1987, Tenby Mayor at the time, Mr. Denzil R. Griffiths, launched an initiative whereby business owners of the town all grouped together to help plant the daffodils.
"I remember at the time Denzil getting together lots of the shopkeepers and brewery owners of the town to plant the daffodils which precede the 'Welcome to Tenby' sign and still blossom to greet people to this day," recalled current Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas.
Over the years the daffodils have became slightly more sparse alongside the road, so originator of the scheme, Mr. Griffiths, along with Clr. Mrs. Thomas and Mayor-elect and chairman of Tenby in Bloom, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, think it's time for the current crop of businesses to get together and help launch a similar idea.
"The original scheme was a big success and still does Tenby proud to this day," said Mr. Griffiths.
"The daffodils were planted a long time ago, though, and I would love to see the newer, younger businesses in Tenby get involved with a similar scheme, or indeed bring their own ideas to making the same area, and indeed the whole town, as colourful and as pleasant as ever," he added.
Anyone with any ideas on developing a new scheme, or businesses wishing to contribute, are asked to contact Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
