Pembrokeshire County Council's highways department are considering the possibility of introducing a pedestrian crossing on a busy Tenby road. The proposal comes after local councillors voiced their concerns in recent weeks over vehicles that constantly speed along Upper and Lower Park Road. Members of the town council have put forward a number of suggestions in recent months to alleviate the dangers that pedestrians face when crossing the road in question, with calls also made for a drop in the speed limit from 30 to 20 mph along what is one of the main routes out of the town. Now, following numerous letters and site meetings, the county council have proposed the possibility of a crossing being introduced in Upper Park Road adjacent to the chip shop, believing that the location would give reasonable forward visibility of the crossing to motorists. They have also agreed in principle with the introduction of bollards on the footway outside Tyssul Court to prevent vehicles from parking there. "The crossing is a good idea and a way forward, as I think anything introduced on the road will heighten motorists' awareness," commented Clr. Mike Evans, when discussing the matter at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council. Clr. Evans added that the proposal to seek a 20 mph speed limit along the road had not been abandoned.
