Newly promoted Whitland finally made their mark in division one of the Ocky White Pembroke Cricket League on Saturday with a shock win over second placed Haverfordwest.
The former division two champions have struggled to find their form so far this season, and looked to be in dire straights as the Town bowlers restricted them to 57 for 5 in 29 overs.
However, Dave Lee gritted his teeth and stood firm, carrying his bat for a controlled 59 which, aided by a solid 15 from teenager Matthew Davies, helped them to 125 for 9 at the break.
Adrian Griffiths did the most damage for Haverfordwest with a haul of 3 for 26 while Darren Brick and Clive Tucker picked up two wickets apiece.
The total looked within easy reach has Haverfordwest strolled out to reply, but Mark Lee had other ideas grabbing four early wickets for just 17 runs .
Paul Webb (3 for 16) and Martin Holloway (2 for 6) completed the rout, with the Town struggling to a paltry 84 all out.
Carew maintained pole position in the league with a commanding six wicket win over Pembroke.
Aled Davies (3 for 16) and Darren Thomas (3 for 23) caused havoc in the Pembroke order with James Owen and Rob Scourfield also picking up two wickets each as the homesters were skittled out for just 82.
Ian Sefton (33) and Nick Scourfield (15) got the visitors off to a solid start with Robert Hicks and Steve Cole chipping in 12 runs apiece to take the league leaders to 83 for 4 and victory in the 21st over.
Reigning champions Lamphey are not going to reliquish the crown easily with Dave Lovell showing the way with an unbeaten 81 runs in their victory over Lawrenny.
Batting first Lawrenny stroked their way to 154 for 8 by the break with Adrian Harries top scoring on 45.
Chris Vincent added 24, Simon Cole 21, Ian Jenkins 19, Andrew Cole (Junior) 15 and skipper Rob Williams 11 not out.
Tim Haggar was a little expensive for Lamphey, his four wicket haul costing 56 runs, but Greg England backed him up well, taking 3 for 26.
Skipper Williams led the way in trying to restrict the champions, his 20 over spell seeing four maidens and four wickets for just 20 runs, but opener Lovell could not be shifted, Daniel Sutton adding 13, Craig Nutty 16 and Brian Hall 15 to see Lamphey to 156 for 7 and victory.
Cresselly's groundsmen had obviously prepared a batting wicket to suit their team on Saturday with the homesters blasting their way to a whopping 276 for 6 against Burton.
Taking centre stage was big hitting Simon Cole who fired off seven sixes and six fours to reach a personal tally of 110 before being removed lbw by Steve Jones.
Not far behind was opener Julian Arthur on 70, Richard Harries (38 not out) and P. Wiliams on 34.
Although Jones took three wickets for Burton it was at a cost of 60 runs, while Gareth Virgo fared a little better taking two for 25.
It may have been a batting wicket when Cresselly were at the crease, but when Burton looked to respond, the balance had shifted towards the bowlers with James Caine spearheading the home attack with four for 23.
Ryan Lewis took two wickets while Lyn Richards, P. James and M. Harries picked up one each to blast Burton all out for just 122 with John Griffiths top scoring on 38.
Simon Wood picked up the man of the match title for his superb all round contribution in Folly Farm Kilgetty's convincing win over near neighbours Narberth.
Wood carried his bat for an excellent 95 as Kilgetty raced to 191 for four, helped along by 39 from Paul Mansbridge, 29 from Phil Jones and 11 from Ian Poole.
Matthew Johns took two wickets for Narberth, albeit for a rather expensive 49 runs while Ian Hughes and Wayne Howells claimed the other two Kilgetty wickets to fall.
Howells looked to have set Narberth off on the right track with his steady 43, but the father and son combination of Barry, Simon and Mark Wood had other ideas with Simon flexing his arm for 3 for 17, Barry taking 2 for 13 and Mark 2 for 33 as Narberth crumbled to 102 all out although Dave John had tried to steady the ship with 16 runs and Geoff Martin battled to 14 not out.
