A NARBERTH woman has been given a community order for common assault following an incident at the Dragon Inn back in March.
Elin Owen, of Victoria Close, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 27 for sentencing, having pleaded guilty on October 6 to assaulting an individual at the Dragon Inn, Water Street on March 21.
She was ordered to pay £200 in compensation and made subject to a year-long community order that includes 30 days’ alcohol abstinence and monitoring as well as 150 hours of unpaid work.
The victim’s personal statement was read by the prosecutor, Sian Vaughan.
Costs amounted to £85, with a surcharge of £114.
Suspended sentence
Also appearing before Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on October 27 was 80-year-old Colin Burlow, of Greenfields Close, Templeton.
He had pleaded guilty on October 6 to stalking involving serious alarm or distress, the course of conduct having been carried out at Templeton between April 1, 2024 and September 16, 2024.
The victim’s personal statement was read by the prosecutor, Sian Vaughan.
Noting the seriousness of the offence, limited remorse, the defendant’s previous record of offending, and that the victim in the case, being known to the defendant in a domestic context, suffered great impact, having left her own home as a result of this offending, the court sentenced Burlow to 12 months imprisonment.
However, the custodial sentence was suspended for 24 months, which took into account his guilty plea and that he has already taken some steps towards addressing his behaviour, including attending a stalking prevention course. It was judged that he has a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
One of the requirements of the sentence is to undertake the 26-session Building Choices programme.
Costs to Crown Prosecution Service were £85, plus a surcharge of £187.
