Pembrokeshire Counselling Service is seeking trained counsellors to join its hard working team of volunteers. The new counsellors must be qualified up to Diploma or Certificate level. Established 13 years ago, Pembrokeshire Counselling Service provides a vital voluntary, confidential, bilingual facility for all age groups in Pembrokeshire and parts of neighbouring Ceredigion. Having started with four counsellors and one supervisor, the organisation now has up to 25 counsellors and supervisors, both men and women. Volunteers see between 300 and 350 clients a year at various chosen venues throughout the county. Anyone applying to be a counsellor would be required to give up a few hours a week. They would be provided with in-house training, supervision and premises in which to work. This is an ideal position for anyone working towards accreditation. Pembrokeshire Counselling Service has built up its client base on referral from the medical profession, past clients and social services. However, in spite of its expanding operation and increase in the number of counsellors and supervisor groups, demand is rapidly overtaking resources. Clients seek help with a wide range of problems, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce; remarriage and stepfamily difficulties; debt; depression; stress and anxiety; drug and alcohol issues; eating disorders; trauma; sexual or physical abuse; redundancy; bereavement; ill health; bullying and changes in life style. If you would like to find out more about Pembrokeshire Counselling Service and becoming a counsellor, you can telephone 01437 541 325. There is an answerphone and you will be contacted as soon as possible.
