At the invitation of both Tenby Fire Station and the RNLI, Clr. Wynne Evans, vice-chairman of the fire authority in Mid and West Wales, visited Caldey Island with the Tenby fire crew to learn more about the operational tactical plan the service has in place on the island. Clr. Evans walked through the town accompanied Tenby fire station crew wearing full fire kit to the town's RNLI lifeboat station where he was welcomed aboard the lifeboat. He was given a full tour and shown all the equipment, including radar systems before its launch into the sea, which took him to Caldey Island. "Being onboard the lifeboat when it launched was a totally exhilarating experience and something I have long wanted to do," said Clr. Evans. Caldey Island volunteer Frank Miller was there to greet Clr. Evans, before they embarked on a tour in the island's multi-agency response vehicle. A guided tour was undertaken right across Caldey. Added Clr. Evans: "The views were breathtaking and a day I will never forget." Councillor Evans said, "I'm really grateful for all the good work the crews do for Tenby and the surrounding area. I was really impressed to see all the equipment and crews in action and wish to support them in all their good work in the future. "We are currently working hard to raise funds for a defibrillator for Caldey's multi-agency response vehicle, to enhance its emergency response provision. "I am grateful to Jeremy Lees and all at Tenby Fire Station, all involved in the RNLI at Tenby and Mr. Miller for being such a wonderful tour guide for a truly very special place in our county."
