Tenby councillors have given their backing to an application to vary conditions of a planning scheme for the town's former cinema.

The application, submitted by South Terrace Properties Ltd. to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, seeks a variation of conditions in respect of plans previously approved for the Royal Playhouse Cinema in White Lion Street, which would allow for a change of use of the premises.

Speaking on the application, which came before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane stated that she would be in favour of the proposals.

"As long as the facade of the building is kept, then I'd approve this. You can't dictate what someone wants to put in the facility; if it was viable as a cinema, then someone would be there using it as a cinema, so you've got to look at the other side of the coin," she said, with her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham, agreeing.

Councillors voted to recommend approval of the application, with their views to be passed on to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, who will decide on the matter.
