The chairman of the De Valence Trust has written to Tenby Town Council expressing concern over a recent planning application submitted for the Celtic Corner building neighbouring the pavilion. "I am writing to express my concern at the plans for the first-floor residential flat in the neighbouring Fecci's building," said Mike Thorne in his letter which came before Tuesday night's meeting of the council. "These plans appear to show patio doors giving access onto the flat roof on the side of the De Valence. "I am not aware of any right of access having been granted onto the roof, and I suggest that we should act now to prevent such a right of access being presumed to exist," he stated. "I suggest that, in order to allow the occupiers of the flat to enjoy fresh air and sunshine, they could continue with patio doors, but only if there were a 'Juliet' balcony across the doors to prevent trespass onto the roof; steps down onto the roof should not be permitted, and their planning application should be amended accordingly," continued Mr. Thorne. However, at the meeting, the town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, reminded council members that they had already recommended refusal of the application at a previous meeting. He also pointed out that he could find no written documentation that allowed neighbours of the De Valence any right of access onto the roof of the building. The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, also reaffirmed that the access to the flat roof on the side of the De Valence should only be used as a fire emergency exit, and that access for any other reason would be unacceptable.
