Concern has been expressed by a local resident over the "dangerous state" of the road between Saundersfoot's St. Brides Hotel and The Glen. The concern was voiced in a letter from Mr. Veal, of St. Brides Hill, which was received at the October meeting of Saundersfoot Community Council. Mr. Veal claimed that the progressive erosion of the road on the hotel side was such, in its present condition, that it caused pedestrians to be 400mm further into the road than should be necessary and it was extremely dangerous, especially for mothers with pushchairs, to negotiate this bend. The letter went on to say, it was also very difficult and hazardous at the lower entrance drive into the grounds of the St. Brides Hotel, as the contours of the drive at its junction with the county council road were such that they caused the pedestrian to be even further into the road and its ensuing traffic. Members all agreed that this was a hazardous stretch of road and the clerk was instructed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council requesting that consideration be given to improvements there and also to enclose Mr. Veal's letter. Among other correspondence received by the council last month was a letter from the Big Kid Circus asking if a site was available in the area to stage their circus programme. Members all agreed there was not a suitable site available in Saundersfoot. An application was received for a variation of the Public Entertainment Licence for the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot. Transfer of Justices Licences were received in respect of the following premises: The Cwmgwennol Country Hotel; The Village Wine Shop; The Mulberry Restaurant; The Captain's Table. An application for a Betting Office Licence was received for the Amusement Arcade, Saundersfoot. A letter was received from the Rainbows organisation requesting a donation to purchase various materials for the group. The Rainbows started 17 years ago and involves various activities for children in the age group five-seven years old. It was proposed by chairman Clr. Brabon and seconded by Clr. Hayes that a donation of £100 be made. All members agreed.
REPORTS FROM VARIOUS COMMITTEES, INCLUDING COUNTY COUNCILLOR'S REPORT
Clr. Hayes reported that a post which had been knocked down by the gallery in Westfield Road had now been replaced. Clr. Hayes also reported that Welsh Water had informed her that remedial works were to be carried out in Saundersfoot, and posters were to be on display informing residents of these works and they would continue until the end of October. Clr. John asked if the traffic chaos outside the school had been discussed at the two governors meetings Clr. Cavell had attended. Clr. Cavell said that the issue had not been raised at either meeting. Clr. Cavell had also attended a meeting of the Regency Hall Committee and a budget for costings for the hall had been received and was being discussed and more information would be available at their next meeting. Clr. Cleevely said that he had attended meetings of the Hospital Implementation Group on a regular basis and the plans were progressing satisfactorily.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Clr. Cleevely asked if the Cenotaph could be cleaned prior to Remembrance Sunday. The clerk said he would arrange for Mr. Graham Brace to carry out these duties. Clr. Baker asked if Saundersfoot CP School could be included in the organisations laying wreaths on the day. The clerk said that he would include the school on his mailing list. Clr. Cleevely suggested having the council Christmas dinner before Christmas this year. Members agreed and chairman Clr. Brabon said that he would make arrangements for the dinner to be held on either December 11 or 18 at the Mulberry Restaurant, Saundersfoot. Clr. Hayes informed members that Saundersfoot had also won an award from Wales in Bloom, the award being a Certificate of Merit in the small country town class. Clr. Baker commented that while travelling through Pentlepoir he had noticed that speed signs and flashing 30 mph signs had been installed, as well as the footpath on Hill Lane, and asked why was the village of Saundersfoot so badly served with regard to these improvements. Members agreed that Saundersfoot seemed to lose out on improvements and decided to raise these issues at their meeting with Mr. Hugh Marriott. Clr. Baker also asked when the new bus shelter would be installed at North Close as promised months ago. The clerk informed members that he had spoken to Mr. Ceri Rees from the county council and was told that the process of installing new bus shelters in the county was taking place at the moment and the North Close shelter would be installed before Christmas. Clr. Cavell asked when were the solar lights to be replaced in the tunnel leading to Coppet Hall. Clr. Hayes said that the county council was looking for vandal proof lights to be fitted there. Clr. Cavell asked if anything could be done to avoid the flooding occurring at the entrance to the Regency Hall car park. Clr. Baker said that this had been discussed previously and suggested considering the work to be carried out in next year's budget. Chairman Clr. Brabon said that Clr. Poole had been approached by residents regarding severe flooding taking place near St. Issell's Church and also on Sandyhill Road towards Sandyhill Nurseries. Members decided to also bring this to the attention of Mr. Hugh Marriott. Chairman Clr. Brabon also asked if an area on Sandyhill Road towards the Rhodewood Hotel could be included in the schedule for grass cutting undertaken by the county council. The clerk was instructed to write requesting that this stretch of road be included in the schedule.
