ITV News Correspondent Rob Osborne was guest speaker at St Issell’s WI October meeting.
After being welcomed to the Regency Hall in Saundersfoot by Bev Bennett, Rob told the ladies of his 18 years as a reporter with ITV, and played some videos of interviews he had done over the years.
He described how the news of queen Elizabeth the ii’s death had reached the news room, and recalled how much he had enjoyed interviewing Dame Shirley Bassey.
He showed a video of himself interviewing randomly in the street, and also an interview he had done with a gentleman who was 106, his 107th birthday due in a week or so.
Rob answered questions from the ladies, too. Janet Standing warmly thanked him for a most interesting talk.
Following refreshments, President Diane Rigden welcomed ladies to the business part of the meeting, with birthday wishes going to Jeanette John and Pam Roberts.
Final arrangements for the Harvest lunch were made, this to take place on October 15 at The Bush Inn at Robeston Wathen.
Arrangements were made to plant spring flowers in the WI’s planter outside the Regency Hall.
Ladies were asked to indicate the number of rotary raffle tickets they could buy and to bring the money to the November meeting.
The ladies who had attended the event at Heatherton earlier that day had enjoyed the event, but there was no interest in the quiz at Letterston.
Some ladies said they would be attending the annual Meeting on November 7, but that it was disappointing the speakers were not known.
St Florence WI had been asked if they would like to arrange the Carol Service this year, but as yet there had been no reply.
This month’s competition winner was Jeanette John and Diane Rigden was the lucky raffle winner. Diane wished ladies a safe journey home, looking forward to the November meeting.
