County Councillor Vanessa Thomas has conducted an on-site meeting with the Senior Traffic Road Safety Engineer to look at the problems with non-adherence to the 20mph speed restriction from Carew Castle Car Park over Carew Bridge.
Councillor Thomas mentioned this at Carew Community Council’s meeting on May 14, where it was agreed that something needs to be done. Cllr Thomas will provide an update for the next meeting.
In other traffic matters, contractors have been appointed by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) to address traffic calming at Paskeston, Milton. Cllr Thomas has also undertaken to remind PCC that signs are needed at both ends of Knapp Lane with the aim of preventing the lane being used by large vehicles.
In her report, the county councillor mentioned the further work needed to repair the bus shelter at Milton as the land behind it is subsiding into the stream. PCC is assessing the situation.
Councillor Thomas has been made aware of the littering problem on the detrunked road off the Carew Roundabout up to the Carew Cheriton Control Tower. A discussion ensued on the best way forward to prevent further littering at Redberth layby. It was noted that penalty notices are still up but no litter bin. Cllr Thomas will reiterate the Community Council’s resolve to PCC that further intervention is needed.
Also at Redberth, a letter documenting the Community Council’s willingness to maintain the bridge has been accepted and PCC has confirmed that its Maintenance Team will continue to cut the grass.
Cllr Thomas was pleased Dwr Cymru had attended swiftly to foul water on Birds Lane. She has been in touch to prevent this happening again and is awaiting a reply.
At the meeting, the chair thanked Cllr Thomas and PCSO Hayward for their continuing work on ‘Meet the Street’ initiatives.
