Now, a century on, the Swansea Historic Vehicle Register is commemorating the event by organising a similar run on Sunday.
"We will stick to the original route as far as is possible and safe," said secretary Ken Bradley, who will be taking part in his Triumph Herald 1360 Estate (1969). "There will be coffee served at the Atlantic Hotel on The Esplanade, followed by lunch at New Hedges," Mr. Bradley continued.
"The route will be provided in the original style and each entrant will get a certificate on successful completion of the run."
Other car clubs have been invited to join the Swansea members for the event and it is hoped that there will be around 20 classic cars on the run, the oldest being from 1910, with others from the 1950s and '60s.
The first car will start at 10.30 and should arrive in Tenby before 12 noon.
