THE final production in the Torch Theatre's anniversary season is 'One for the Road', a comedy from Willy Russell - the creator of 'Educating Rita' and 'Blood Brothers'.

The production will run from Wednesday, January 29, until Saturday, February 15, at 7.30 pm. Tickets are priced at £8 (£5.50 discounts).

Artistic director Peter Doran directs this life-affirming play, where we see Dennis suffering from a mid-life crisis. On the eve of his 40th birthday, he decides to make a last-ditch attempt to break away from the confines of his middle-class existence. Torn between the security of married life in a dormer bungalow on a northern housing estate and dreams of being a rucksacked super-tramp, his plans for a great escape are foiled at every turn.

Full of knowledgeable venom about a world where Beethoven Underpass leads to Wagner Walkway and where anyone who doesn't join Weight Watchers or the Ramblers Club is regarded as a social deviant, this wickedly observant comedy won't fail to amuse with its portrayal of recognisable people in familiar predicaments.

Huw Bevan (Clive in Channel 5's 'Family Affairs' and Danny in the Torch's recent Christmas musical 'Danny and the Donkey Man and the Search for the Magic Crystal') plays Roger Fuller.
