Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert, who spent four days working at a Tenby hotel as part of his BBC ‘Work Experience’ series, will be returning to the resort again this year to appear at the town’s De Valence Pavilion.
Tenby’s Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, revealed at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council that the popular stand-up would appear at the venue in March.
After a six-year break from performing live, Rhod is hitting the road again in 2019 with a huge new tour, but it is not known yet whether his Tenby appearance will be a routine stand-up show or an evening similar to the special one-off charity ‘Comedy Quiz’ night he hosted at Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall back in 2017, as the only details confirmed so far is the date of his appearance in Tenby, which will be Saturday, March 16.
The comedian and presenter spent a few days working at the resort’s Fourcroft Hotel back in 2014 for his popular BBC 2 series ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience.’
Clr. Mrs. Brown said that the De Valence venue had enjoyed a busy run to Christmas which continued with community events such as wrestling, film shows and a panto, after the festive period.
She told her colleagues that work continues to refurbish the venue, with the top bar to be altered next, and a project to upgrade the lighting equipment one of the big projects earmarked for 2019.
Councillors also unanimously agreed at the meeting to allow the Tenby De Valence Pavilion Trust to be able to access the town council’s ‘Consultancy Fees and Special Projects Support Fund’ to enable it to maximise grant funding opportunities for building improvements and enhancements.
“We’ve heard how the De Valence is a community asset so it would be sensible to allow them to tap into any grant schemes and funding,” commented Clr. Mike Evans who put forward the proposal.
