Chevron Limited, whose operations include the Texaco-branded service station network and the Pembroke Refinery in Wales, has announced that it is to support the Wales Air Ambulance Service, a charity providing emergency response services across the country. "We believe strongly in playing a positive role in the communities in which we operate and are delighted to support this important service," said Guy Vigar, Chevron general manager for the Texaco brand. As well as supporting Wales Air Ambulance through its Texaco brand, Chevron's Pembroke Refinery has also nominated it as its 'good cause' for 2007. Earlier this year, a sold-out crowd of 600 attended a Pembroke Refinery-sponsored performance of the musical That'll Be the Day at Folly Farm that raised £8,600 for Wales Air Ambulance. Additional fund- raising activities are planned, including a performance by the Three Counties Brass Band at Folly Farm in September. Steve Jones, regional development manager for Wales Air Ambulance, said: "This is a wonderful gesture by a global company that has recognised the importance of our service in providing rapid, advanced, life support paramedic intervention to the scene of any life-threatening trauma in the shortest possible time. Hundreds of lives are saved each year by the helicopter crews and this vital service needs the financial assistance of organisations and the public alike to sustain its operations. We would like to thank Chevron for this wonderful donation and express our delight in forming a relationship with the company." The Wales Air Ambulance service, operating out of the Swansea Airport, was officially launched in 2001 initially as a five-day-a-week operation, but expanded its operations to seven-days-a-week in 2002. The service is vital to Wales with its widely scattered population with a number of people in remote and isolated communities far from hospitals.

Guy Vigar, general manager, and Linda Cope, operations manager for the Texaco brand, meet with some of the Wales Air Ambulance crew at Swansea Airport.
