FANS of top quality Welsh cuisine are in for a treat in January when members of the Welsh National Culinary Team serve up their hot kitchen menu that won them a gold medal at the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg.
The chefs have teamed up with Tenby's Fourcroft Hotel to organise a celebration dinner on Friday, January 17, with tickets at £35 a head or £300 for a table of 10 likely to be snapped up quickly. Proceeds will go towards financing the Welsh National Culinary Team.
"Our previous dinners have been a great success and we are returning by popular demand to West Wales to cook," said team manager Peter Jackson. "It will be a rare opportunity for the public to sample our gold winning menu from the World Cup that features as much Welsh produce as possible."
The senior and junior Welsh teams exceeded all expectations by collecting eight gold medals, 15 silvers and seven bronzes at the Culinary World Cup.
The senior chefs, competing as a nation for the first time after eight years as a UK regional team, finished seventh overall from 24 teams, while the junior team, making its competitive debut in Luxembourg, finished fifth from nine teams.
The six-man Welsh senior team won golds in the hot kitchen competition and silvers in the cold buffet, while the five-man junior team won silvers in the cold buffet and bronze in the hot kitchen.
The menu awaiting the Tenby diners is: canapes; pressed terrine of fish, king scallop, a salad of Jerusalem artichoke and asparagus and crab bisque; glazed belly of pork, fillet of pork wrapped with apple, sage and black pudding, braised fennel and cabbage, William potato and panache of vegetables; warm chocolate tarte with pink champagne and raspberry jelly, vanilla and rum panecotta and raspberry compote.
Next competition for the teams is the American Culinary Championships in Chicago next May.
Among those backing up the team at Culinary World Cup was Jamie Bessant, of the Fountain Head Inn, Saundersfoot.
Tickets can be booked through Mr. Peter Jackson, Welsh National Culinary Team, c/o Hotel Maes-y-Neuadd, Talsarnau, Harlech, Gwynedd.
