Cutting-edge blues singer, songwriter and bottleneck slide guitarist Catfish Keith has established himself as one of the most exciting country blues performers of our time.
Pembrokeshire music lovers can enjoy a taste of Catfish’s innovative style of foot-stomping, deep delta blues and American roots music when he plays at Burnett’s Hill Chapel, Martletwy on Wednesday, November 2 - the only Welsh date on his latest European tour.
“Catfish is one of the brightest lights in acoustic blues and roots music and in 2008 was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame,” said chapel concert organiser Keith Johnson. “He performed in the chapel to a packed house about six or seven years ago and loved the venue. I’m sure it will be another great evening.”
Born in East Chicago, Indiana, Catfish first heard blues as a child while growing up alongside the Mississippi. When he picked up the guitar as a teenager, he was inspired to pursue the deep delta blues, embarking on a lifelong quest as a solo performer of American roots music.
His travels took him to the Caribbean, where he soaked up a wealth of island sounds, so that rhythms of jazz, calypso and reggae infuse his unique guitar style.
Catfish has 14 independent radio chart-topping albums to his credit, and has toured the USA, UK and Europe dozens of times to wide acclaim, headlining major music festivals, and appearing with legends John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Taj Mahal and many others.
The concert at Burnett’s Hill starts at 7.30 pm and tickets are available from Main Street Music in Pembroke or from 01646 651725.
