Sir, This letter is in reference to the Observer's front page story and photograph on Friday, April 4, and the donation to the Summerhill Community Association of £13,332.18 on behalf of Amroth Community Carnival Association. This donation has come as a complete surprise to the majority of the Carnival Association Committee, including some of those mentioned in the article as giving their support, but in fact knew nothing of this presentation. There was no committee meeting to discuss this gift and under the original constitution of the Amroth Community Carnival, the last appointed committee still is in place as the association has never been formally wound up, therefore is in a position to make democratic decisions about all matters relating to the association, including finance. It is important to note this is in no way a criticism of the chosen charity which is perfectly entitled to be considered for a donation, but the lack of a democratic process under the terms of the constitution of Amroth Community Carnival Association puts into question the legality of what has taken place, and this has been looked at. This letter has been sent by a majority vote of the existing members of the committee. We would request that the existing committee members please attend a meeting on Sunday, April 27, at the New Inn, Amroth, at 5 pm, to discuss current events further. Members of the public are invited to attend, but contributions to the discussions will be on invitation basis only.
