Pembrokeshire’s very own chartitable ‘Captain Phillips’ took another step closer to his target of running 500 marathons when he once again completed the London Marathon on Sunday.

David Phillips, a member of the Pembrokeshire Harriers and the Massey Ferguson Runners in Coventry, divides his time with his family living in Penally and Warwickshire.

For the 18th successive year, he was leading Team Phillips and the Daily Telegraph team of runners at the London Marathon raising funds for the Brain and Spine Foundation Charity.

“London was oh so hot, but all went well and I plodded over the line in 6hrs 17 mins for marathon number 492!” he said following the event.

“Plus we raised £10,000 for the Brain and Spine Foundation, so thanks for your coverage of this as we did get donations to the Virgin site from people who read the press.

“So that’s £117,000 raised now, so I must keep going say the Brain and Spine Foundation!” he said.

Afterwards, David and his fellow team runners were able to present a cheque for £10,000 to Colin Jackson the Brain and Spine Foundation/Daily Telegraph’s honorary captain at the post marathon party in London.

David will be enjoying another trip to London next month as he and his wife Robina have been invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
