UNUSUALLY Cantorion Ty Ddewi, the St. David's Singers have prolonged their summer rehearsal programme. This is in preparation for their second concert in the summer series organised at St. Mary's Church, Tenby.
With most helpful backing from practice pianist Robert Waygood, conductor Brian Lavender has stretched his choir by selecting as the major work for this concert Mendelssohn's 'Hymn of Praise'. Popular, well-known soloists - Vanessa Thomas, soprano, and Philip Watkins, tenor - will take the main solo parts.
Undoubtedly organist Michael Slaney will use the wonderful acoustics of the church to convey the full range of the demanding accompaniment. The programme will also include short anthems by Rutter, Faure and Mendelssohn.
The concert will be on Wednesday, June 27, at 8 pm, at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, and will round off the choir's current season. Rehearsals will begin again on September 12 for Christmas concerts to be given at Steynton Parish Church and St. David's Cathedral early in December.
