KEEN swimmer, Alan Long is in training for a charity dip.
Sixty-year-old Alan will be swimming from Tenby to Caldey Island on August 10 to raise funds for the George Thomas Hospice in Cardiff.
Nurses from the hospice, who help look after people suffering from cancer, cared for his ex-wife, Sheila, and as a result inspired his daughter to pursue a career in the medical profession.
Now in a bid to say thank you, Alan, who lives in Pontypridd, is hoping to raise £10,000 to purchase three new beds.
He is stranger to the Tenby waters, as 10 years ago he took part in a double crossing, and whilst the distance still holds no problem, Alan is keen to beat the 48-minute record to reach the monastic isle.
