A £3,000 thank you to Tenby RNLI and the town’s Surflink organisation has been said by the organisers of the summer’s Caldey Swim.

They were amongst the providers of the all-important safety cover for the 2.5-mile crossing from the monastic island to the Tenby mainland which was tackled by a shoal of over 60 swimmers in August.

The event, organised by the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA), was re-scheduled from a fortnight previously because of weather conditions.

“Luckily, on the second occasion, we managed to fit the swim in before the weather became too challenging,” said TSSA chairman, Chris Osborne. “We would like to thank all our swimmers who braved the elements, and of course, all those who provided safety cover on sea and land, without which the event would not be able to take place.”

Cheques for £1,500 each have now been presented to Tenby RNLI coxswain Phil John and Tenby Surflink chairman Kevin Cheeseman.

A further £345 has gone directly to the RNLI from the JustGiving account of swimmer Joanna Bouzyk.

• TSSA also stages Tenby’s famous Boxing Day Swim, and this year’s fancy dress theme of comic characters has just been announced. Any charity or good cause who would like to be considered to receive a donation from money collected on behalf of TSSA at the event should contact TSSA secretary Nicole Evans on [email protected] before October 31.

Swimmers can also collect for their own chosen charities. Sponsor forms can be downloaded from www.tenbyboxingdayswim.co.uk
