Weather conditions on Sunday forced the postponement of the Tenby-Caldey Open Water Swim.

Organisers decided that the morning's easterly wind of Force 3-4 could compromise the safety of the event.

Fifty entrants were due to make the 2.5-mile crossing from Caldey to Tenby's North Beach at 10.30 am to raise money for the RNLI.

"But at a pre-arranged safety meeting at 7 am, it was clear that the conditions up until midday would be challenging for the swimmers and difficult for some of the safety craft," said Chris Osborne, chairman of the event organisers, Tenby Sea Swimming Association.

"Fortunately, through 'phone and Facebook messages, we managed to quickly spread the word and only one of the swimmers turned up."

The swim will now be held on Sunday, September 1.

"As that is the weekend before Ironman Wales, we're sure a number of Caldey-Tenby swimmers will welcome our event as part of their training programme," added Mr. Osborne.

"To have to postpone is very disappointing, but obviously the safety of our swimmers and the integrity of the event is paramount."
