Last Friday, cadets from 1284 (Tenby) Sqn organised a Bingo and Raffle Evening in the Carew Memorial Hall. The cadets raised a massive £377.70!

CWO David Folder, Cpl Owen Davies, Cdt Mathew Coburn and Cdt William Davies worked hard raising money for equipment and to subsidise camps.

Throughout the year, cadets have the chance to go on camps to RAF bases where they learn about life in the RAF, leadership skills, adventurous activities, all the while having fun and making good friends.

But cadets do more than just go on camps; they have the opportunity to go flying, gliding, shooting and much more. Through cadets, you can also gain qualifications and awards, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from bronze to gold, a BTEC in Aviation Studies, music and many more. You can also do sports such as athletics, rugby, hockey, netball and football.

If you’re interested in joining the Tenby Sqn, then contact AFS Victoria Thomas on [email protected] or contact CWO David Folder on 01646 651 635. The squadron meets at the end of Tenby train station parading on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 - 9 pm. Why not pop along and ee how they can help you.

The cadets impressed the crowd at the bingo evening with their uniform and their politeness did the sqn proud.

Cpl Owen Davies said: “I had a lot of fun helping and playing the bingo and I’m sure the rest of the cadets did too.”

Cpl Davies has been a member of 1284 (Tenby) sqn for over five years.

“I’m so happy that I could give back to the cadets, they have given me so much, allowing me to achieve things I never thought possible, such as the Nijmegen march.”

The Nijmegen marches are just one of the adventurous activities that the Air Cadet Organisation offers; it is a 100-mile endurance march over four days in the Dutch city of Nijmegen.

With lots of prizes won, everyone left the bingo evening happy, especially Cdt Mathew Coburn who won three prizes!

The top raffle prize, a flying lesson with Fly Wales, was sought after by many people, along with prizes from Oakwood, Folly Farm and Manor House Wildlife Park.

The bingo saw prizes such as Sunday lunch for two at the Carew Inn, a two-course Sunday lunch for two at the Cosheston Brewery Inn, a £10 voucher for the Milton Brewery and a £10 voucher for the Milton Village Shop.

CWO David Folder said: “I would like to thank all who gave gifts to the bingo and raffle; the prizes were wonderful. The bingo was a big success, raising £377.70; hopefully next year it’ll be bigger and better.”

The cadets are planning on making this an annual event.

“I’d also like to thank the cadets, staff and volunteers for their hard work. The cadets were a credit to the
