BONUS BALL
Lucky winners of the bonus ball draw this week were Gladys Cleaton and Kitty Bliss.
Tenby 100 Llandaff Fields BC 98 It was a warm welcome for the boys from our capital city in a match that the home side scraped through. At one time, Mike Gouldingay and his crew looked like they were going to be overwhelmed, but a gritty finish saw them cut the deficit to five shots. Local boy Ken Williams had a solid game for Gwyn Beynon and his foursome, but the rink lost it over the last two ends to go down by five shots. Jonathan Hubbard had a magnificent game for Mike's rink as they stormed to a 19-shot win, which, unbeknown at the time, sealed the game for the Seasiders. Terry Howells and young Luke Rees are certainly forging a partneship in the friendly fixtures, but it was a strong finish by the visitors that saw them edge to a seven-shot win. Nice to see Doug Silcox ease his way back, after being out of action with a back injury lately. Bert was exhorting his rink to greater heights, but a count of four on the last end saw them run out with a creditable draw. It was great to be playing in the sunshine, and the visitors were very complimentary about the green and the facilities at the club. Rink scores (Tenby first, Llandaff Fields skips only): R. Kennion, R. Hine, L. Rees, T. Howells 14; E. Bye 21. D. Rees, D. Silcox, G. Hill, B. Barnikel 24; K. Spicer 24. B. Winstone, C. Roberts, R. Hurlow, M. Gouldingay 18; W. Smart 23. H. Meades, K. Williams, K. Lloyd, G. Beynon 15; P. Treharne 20. N. Hensman, J. Hubbard, A. Hooper, M. Crockford 29; R. Richards 10.
County Finals
It was a great day for Paul Diment and John Baggott as they won both finals they were involved in. In an all-Tenby affair in the rinks competition, Paul along with John, Simon Evans (substituting for Jonathan Webb) and Terry Howells emerged victorious over Pat Currie and his rink. It was a magnificent performance by both foursomes that the Tenby club were represented in the final. Paul and John were also victorious in the pairs final over a Saundersfoot combination. Peter Day had to be content with a runners-up spot in the singles event, while it was the same for young Adam Hensman in the Under 35 singles final. Pat Currie substituted for Helen Baggott's husband John in the mixed pairs event, but they were beaten by Ceris Hewlings and John Roberts from Saundersfoot. Credit must go to all for reaching the finals. Juniors
Brother and sister Ysie and Cameron White were runners-up in the recent junior tournament held in Saundersfoot. Molly Spencer certainly did not have the luck of the draw as her group included league bowlers from Whitland. The youngsters now have their eyes on the county junior competition to be held in Haverfordwest, which unfortunately coincides with a junior friendly against Ystrad Mynach.
neyland brunel 21 tenby goscar 21
The Goscar team played at Neyland in the Meyrick Owen Shield for the first time last Saturday. It proved to be a tricky green, but the weather was sunny and everyone enjoyed a pleasant afternoon's bowling. It turned out to be a close game, with each team taking the lead, but with Neyland Brunel eventually needing one on the last end to draw. Ray Hine and Brian Winstone played up front, with new boy Harry Ebdon at third having a good game. Neil Hensman bowled well, gaining more experience as skip. Overall, it was a close game played in a friendly atmosphere.
