BONUS BALL
This week's lucky winners were Jane Merrony and Tony and Doris Brown - that was kept very quiet from the rink, Mr. Brown!
Tenby 113 Kislingbury 102 Everyone was wondering where these generous tourists were from. The county of Northants was the answer. They started the proceedings by giving us a song, which was good, but as the hosts' captain politely pointed out, "you stick to football and leave the singing to the Welsh!" Tony Brown stormed to a 14-shot win, with Junior Academy player Rachel Hensman playing at lead, being encouraged by her team-mates, and certainly not letting the rink down. Gwyn Beynon and his rink stayed on a count of six for six ends, but then stormed back to eventually go down by five shots. Cyril Roberts came on strongly in the second half, but despite his efforts, Mike Crockford's rink lost by three shots over the last two ends. Ted Brutnell was the star performer in Vera Williams's rink, and with Lynne Deli playing her first friendly for some time, and Reg Thake revelling in the fun and the sunshine, it left the skip with a smile on her face all afternoon, as they won by four shots. All members of Graham Hill's foursome pulled their weight, but they were just squeezed out by three shots in the end. She admits she is a slow starter, but Gerry Brutnell certainly finished on a high as she helped Audrey Owen's crew to a four-shot win. In the after-match presentations, this very generous team not only presented the Tenby side with a suitably engraved glass memento, but each member of the team was given an engraved keyring. They then proceeded to donate six bottles of wine for future club raffles. The home captain enquired if he was allowed a bottle, but this had to be put to a vote, with the result of 23 votes against and only one vote for! Poor chap! These visitors were one of the most generous teams we have ever entertained. Rink scores (Tenby first, visiting skips only) were: H. Meades, G. Brutnell, K. Lloyd, A. Owens 21; K. Leegen 17. V. Last Saturday, the visitors were the Borderers of Whitland, supported by some of the club's first team players and including a lot of the younger element taking part. It was a very good competitive game overall, except for rink two, which saw Five Arches comfortably victorious. On that rink, Stuart Askew and Jonathan Hubbard were up front, while Tony Brown and Mike Crockford were third and skip, respectively. They all had outstanding games. At 10 ends, they were nine shots to five up, but then stretched their lead, going on to win by 29 shots. Rink three saw Jock Best and Ted Brutnell up front, with Ron Hurlow at third and Dai King Thomas as skip. Unfortunately, they got off to a slow start and never really got back into the game, going down in the end by 11 shots. Rink four saw Ken Lloyd and Rob Wilkins up front, with Gwyn Beynon as third and Roy Powling as skip. This rink seemed to be in control, being seven shots up at the interval. And, although they only won four ends in the second half, they increased their lead and ran out winners by nine shots at the close of play. Rink five saw Roy Kennion and Jim Taylor, who both had excellent games, along with Mike Gouldingay as third and John Moffat as skip. It was a very close fought game from start to finish and on the 11th end, the honours were shared at nine shots each. But the man who did all the damage was D. Lewis, the Borderers' skip. Eventually, the visitors went on to win by five shots. Rink scores (Five Arches first, Borderers skips only) were: S. Askew, J. Hubbard, T. Brown, M. Crockford 34; T. Thomas 5. J. Best, T.
