Our Little Gem
Who else, but Rene Silcox? Representing Heatherton in the Welsh Champion of Champions finals at Bodelwyddan last month, she battled her way through to the quarter-finals of the event, the furthest any female Pembrokeshire bowler has progressed. Her victor was Welsh international Julie Davies, who has appeared in two British Isles finals, a formidable opponent to say the least. Rene gave her all and was certainly not disgraced, a point her opponent made. Now it is back to the real 'stuff', battling the elements in the wild outdoors, where I am sure Rene will be appearing in a few of the club finals.

Congratulations
Tenby-born Ceris Hewlings has been selected to represent Wales in the forthcoming Home Internationals to be held at Llandrindod Wells. A former junior international, she is joined in the senior squad by Ann Lewis, who, along with Ceris, plays out of Saundersfoot. This is a great achievement for the county to have two representatives in the full international set-up. Well done girls.
Bonus Ball
Kitty Bliss, our most loyal supporter - come rain or shine, cold or windy, she is always on her favourite seat accompanied by 'Nia', her faithful bodyguard - was one of the winners this week, whileAnne Preston was the other lucky receipient. Well done ladies. Monday's fixture
The match against Windsor, a six-rink friendly due to be played on May 21, has a kick-off time of 1.30 pm, not the usual 2 pm start. So no excuses for turning up at ten to two and saying, "I thought the game was at two o'clock"! Still to confuse you further, the next mixed friendly will start at 3 pm. I will keep you informed when we start the day- night games like in cricket!
Tenby 69 (0 pts.) Whitland 90 (14)
After a two-week lay-off, the Layton & Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby team were back in action last weekend. Opponents for the day were the green army from Whitland, who are serious title contenders this year. The Tenby team knew this would be a serious test on their home green. Gerald Hewitt, Ashley Hooper, John Baggott and skip Paul Diment were first up. This match was a tight affair from the start, with never more than two shots in it. The Whitland rink, however, managed to hold their nerve at the death to edge it by two shots. Dai Spencer, Jo Richards, Jon Webb and Andrew Muskett were next up. Andrew and his men dominated the first half easing into a 10-shot lead, but the Whitland four started pegging them back after tea. Level going into the last end, the Whitland rink produced the goods to finish three-shot winners. Stuart Askew, Peter Hooper, Mike Crockford and Pat Currie were on rink four. This was again a really close fought battle, but once again the Whitland men emerged triumphant by one shot. Skip Peter Day and his rink of Neil Dickinson, Bert Barnikel and Terry Preston were never in their match. It was just one of those days for Peter and his men and they finally succumbed to a disappointing 15-shot defeat. So a disappointing 21-shot defeat and losses on all rinks was the overall outcome for Tenby. Whitland thoroughly deserved their victory and with their mixture of youth and experience will be a very difficult outfit to beat this season. Rink scores (Tenby first, Whitland skips only) were: Gerald Hewitt, Ashley Hooper, John Baggott, Paul Diment 17; M. James 19. Dai Spencer Joseph Richards, Jon Webb, Andrew Muskett 20; C. Court 23. Stuart Askew, Peter Hooper, Mike Crockford, Pat Currie 20; G. Thomas 21. Neil Dickinson, Bert Barnikel, Terry Preston, Peter Day 12; S. Reese 27.
