Tenby 89 (14 pts.) Neyland 70 (0)

The Coastal Cottages sponsored Tenby team were boosted by the previous weeks win against Neyland on the slick Tenby surface. On rink one, Neil Dickinson, Bert Barnikel, Terry Preston and Peter Day took a few ends to reach top gear but ran out comfortable winners 25-15. On rink two, Doug Silcox, Ashley Hooper, John Moffat and Pat Currie, it was the opposite, all was going well leading 15-6 in front, but back came Neyland to within one before Pat and the lads hung on for a good win 19-16. On rink three, David Spencer, Mike Goldingay, Ray Holly and Jon Webb had a hard afternoon against Bill Barrett, but coming through with a 23-20 victory. On rink four, Gerald Hewitt, Roy Kennion, Dave Robb and Andrew Muskett made it a clean sweep for the homeside, a bit of a scrap this one, but a good result. Another 14 points to Tenby has moved them to mid-table, no room for complacency though, with a few players missing this weekend (Congrats Bert and Pauline) another good result is a must to keep up the winning ways. Thanks to ADM Design for sponsoring this match.

Haverfordwest Castle 70 (2 pts.) tenby five arches 81 (12) This was a fantastic result for a side still missing at least four regulars, but their replacements certainly put up a great performance. None more so than veteran Lewis Hilling. Playing his first match of the year, he turned in an immaculate display of lead bowling. Another late replacement was Cyril Roberts and he didn't let his rink down. Normally a lead, Ron Hurlow played with all the assurance of a seasoned third, while there was a smile back on captain Mike Crockford's face after he emerged from a long black tunnel when he had suffered a loss of confidence and form. After going 10 shots down after four ends, the rink battled back and won by six shots. As always Gwyn Beynon and his crew delivered the 'goods' with a three shot victory. Up front, Ray Hine and Ken Lloyd are settling into a good combination. It is so essential for the 'front men' to build the 'head' to allow the third and skip to play the shots. What about 'Plunger', the affectionate nickname the team have for Bill Bailey and his men? They certainly showed their mettle by scoring 10 shots over the last three ends to steal a great three shot win. Tony Shaw pulled off some great shots. Another returning to form was Dai King Thomas, who in the words of his third, Graham Hill, had a good all-round game. Returning to the fray enthusiastic as ever was Tony Powling, a great team player. It was a wonderful team effort all round by the Seasiders after the shambolic display the week before at Milford. Rink scores (Tenby Five Arches first, Castle skips only) were: T. Brutnell, T Powling, G. Hill, D. King Thomas 13; D. Pollock 15. S. Askew, J. Hubbard, T. Shaw, B. Bailey 23; P. Lewis 20. R. Hine, K. Lloyd, J. Taylor, G. Beynon 22; D. Crouch 19. L. Hilling, C. Roberts, R. Hurlow, M. Crockford 23; W. Hall 17.

tenby Five Arches 63 Borderers 77 This Brewers Cup match played on a glorious sunny evening was not the result the Seasiders wanted. The selection policy for this competition is to give all those players who do not figure in the league side, a game. But it is still a game we want to win. Ok, we have a few players away on holiday, some who have been recruited by Tenby, but the team on paper should have produced a better result. At the start of the season we were not playing well, but winning, with some of the more senior players producing games that compensated for those in the team who were struggling to find form and consistency. Now it is the senior players that have lost that edge and not leading by example for the younger players and the rest of the team. It is being left to the unsung heroes like Jim Taylor and Ted Brutnell who are valiantly trying to lift the team. One of the luminaries of the Arches team that is consistently 'producing the goods' is Gwyn Beynon who with his laid back approach is week-in week- out guiding his rink home to success, and he is the first to admit he does not like playing skip. Maybe his approach should be adopted by the captain because at the moment he is playing as if he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Maybe the return of Roy Powling who has such a calming influence on the players around him will produce the results again. Mike Gouldingay had a steady game in the 'boiler house' of the rink, but it did not stop Dai King Thomas and his foursome slipping to a five shot deficit. Roy Kennion was the player that kept Tony Shaw and his crew in contention again going down by five shots. Jim and Gwyn produced the shots that saw them as the only winning rink by two shots. Mike Crockford and his crew hauled themselves back to lead by two shots on the 18th end, only to squander it over he final three ends to lose by four shots. Rink scores (Tenby Five Arches first, Borderers skips only) were: H. Ebdon, K. Lloyd, J. Taylor, G. Beynon 17; J. Hammond 15. B. Winstone, J. Richards, M. Donoghue, M. Crockford 18; D. Jenner 22. A Hensman, J. Hubbard, R. Kennion, T. Shaw 15; D. Lewis 20. R. Hurlow, M. Gouldingay, T. Brutnell, D. King Thomas 13; D. Richards 18.

Fines

Tenby captain Andrew Muskett imposes £1 fines on members of the team for such heinous, earth- shattering misdemeanors such as arriving improperly dressed, no tie, wrong coloured shoes, not taking the club flag down etc. The one that 'took the biscuit' recently was, after selection, Ashley Hooper being fined for being dropped! And yes, he paid up! At Pembroke Dock, in his Churchill-like address to the 'troops', Andrew asked his team not to be distracted by the fact that England were playing in the World Cup whereupon dour Scots Dai Robb muttered he couldn't care less whether England won or lost and passionate Welshman Mike Crockford said the England game was definitely the last thing on his mind. But Muskie had the last say as his team triumphed and England won as well!

Hello sailor!

Is there no end to the interests of our lovable rogue PC? After being taken to a ballet he now is into things nautical. Everything now is laced with nautical jargon. He did not put to sea today because it was a bit 'lumpy' or fresh. He went fishing in St. Paul's Bay, which he was gently reminded was Paul Jones Bay. It's all standard hand bouys and 'boxing' the compass. He now is an expert on the weather telling all and sundry 'no rain today boys, the wind is in the South East' or 'When the gulls are on the lee fair weather sailor will it be.' I think Chris Jenkins will be consulting him before turning the sprinkler system on next. Mind, he does take some stick from 'Doughboy' and Mike who are always ribbing him about some nautical terms. He is now considering having an anchor tattooed on his arm! But he still remains smiling through it all which proves he can give out the 'stick' and take it as well. As we said, a lovable rogue is our Pat Currie. Five Arches v Pendine

Sunday sees the arrival of table-toppers Pendine unbeaten so far this season, although without a few regulars, the home side still turnout a fairly strong side. Team: J. Richards, M. Donoghue, R. Hurlow, M. Crockford, S. Askew, J. Hubbard, G. Hill, B. Bailey, T. Brutnell, T. Powling, R. Wilkins, R. Powling, R. Hine, K. Lloyd, J. Taylor, G. Beynon. Kick-off is 2.30 pm. Bonus Ball

Meryl Cooke did it again and the other winner was Webbie. Nice to see Jonathan in the money - it will go some way to paying for his recent holiday!
