TENBY 88
An impressive 35-shot win and 14 league points put the Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team back on the winning road. The opponents were the newly-promoted Pembroke Dock A team, but as was proved against the defeat to the Arches last week, Tenby would have to be on top of their game and fully committed.
Andrew Muskett stepped up to skip in place of the unavailable Mal Bishop and recorded an impressive 13-shot victory. Up front Ian Badham was superb and was ably backed with steady games from Ben Owens and 'Budgie' Newth. Ian had to leave early as he was not sure what type of clothes he should have put in his washing machine: was Friday's wash coloured, whites or Max's?
Paul Diment's rink of Sam McNeilly, Terry Preston and John Baggott were never threatened and only dropped shots on eight of the 21 ends. Paul was well impressed with his rink's performance and they eventually ran out 13 shot winners.
Captain Pat Currie had a much closer match on his rink. With Dai Spencer at lead, Alan Redman number two and Peter Day at third, they fought and clawed their way to a four-shot victory, but they still could have lost it on the final end.
Highlight of the match, was a seven-shot haul on the seventh end for the Tenby foursome, one short of a maximum. Everyone swore not to mention the one bowl that did not count Alan!
On rink four, Terry Howells won by five shots, giving Tenby overall maximum championship points. The returning Lee Richards at one followed by Webby, still wearing his Ascot tails, and Dave Morgan all bowled well to ensure victory.
It was nice for the Tenby side to actually come back with something from Pembroke Dock for a change, with what was an excellent win. Tenby must be wary, though, as proved this season, there is always a potential banana skin waiting round the corner.
Special thanks to Stowford Press for the after-match jovialities.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Pembroke Dock A skips only):
Ian Badham, Ben Owens, Dai Newth, Andrew Muskett 23; M Gillard 10.
Sam McNeilly, Terry Preston, John Baggott, Paul Diment 23; N. Firman 10.
Dai Spencer, Alan Redman, Peter Day, Pat Currie 19; G. Bann 15.
Lee Richards, Jon Webb, Dave Morgan, Terry Howells 23; G. Gelderblom 18.

NEYLAND 62
The Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team were quickly back in action the following afternoon with Neyland the opponents. On a glorious sunny afternoon captain Pat issued a warning to his side not to slip up and only 100 per cent effort would suffice.
Pat Currie once again drew rink one; suspicions are starting to rise, could Pat be the Harry Hanger of Tenby? Pat had the experienced lead Sam McNeilly step across to his rink, who had an outstanding game, and backed by steady performances from Redders and Daisy the boys easily won by 15 shots.
After the previous evening's impressive display, Andrew Muskett remained at skip. Assisted by Ian Badham, Ben Owens and Budgie Newth, the rink comfortably won by 23 shots. For anyone still wondering, Friday is coloured wash for Ian!
Terry Howells's rink of Lee Richards, Jon 'Hay Fever' Webb and Dave Morgan were involved in a very close game. The match went to the last end with Tenby just in front, but with the head changing every bowl, Neyland managed to pinch a couple of shots at the death, the final result culminating in a well fought out draw.
Mal Bishop took over the absent Paul Diment's rink, with Dai Spencer moving across at lead, backed by Terry Preston and John Baggott. The lads raced into a 10-2 lead, but were soon pegged back after dropping a five and a four. This led to a tighter finish than expected, but Mal's men just ran out victors by three shots.
With two matches played, and 27 points out of 28 accrued, Tenby should be well satisfied with the weekend's performances.
Next week, the Tenby side will be having a rest from the league, and involved in the R. F. Diment Cup with a tie against Pendine.
Rumours have spread that these match reports are now viewed regularly by ex Tenby residents via the Internet. Inside information has it that ex subbuteo international Alan Jones is an avid reader of this column.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Neyland skips only):
Sam McNeilly, Alan Redman, Peter Day, Pat Currie 27; D. Sutton 12.
Ian Badham, Ben Owens, Dai Newth, Andrew Muskett 35; A. King 12.
Lee Richards, Jon Webb, Dave Morgan, Terry Howells 17; B. Barrett 17.

FIVE ARCHES 79
ST. BRIDES 61
It was a strange looking line-up for this Bobby Diment Cup match against St. Brides on a lovely evening. This was a rarity in itself as normally our evening games are always played in rain or windy conditions. With a few regulars out, it was a chance for the other squad members to have a game, and to give a run out to some of the juniors.
Liam Mcdaid had a great game and with plenty of encouragement from Peter and Gerald he enjoyed his second appearance for the Arches.
With lots of backing from the supporters, including Ted and Jerry Brutnell, Ray and Mavis Holly, Neil Dickinson and Ron Hurlow, the youngsters had plenty of encouragement.
By the 12th end, Peter Hooper had raced into a 15 shots to six lead, but the village side clawed their way back to eventually go down by five. Sion Smith was back in Arches' colours for the first time in two years, and he showed up well.
Dave King Thomas had the bubbly Sam Ormond in his rink, and along with Johnathan Hubbard and Maxie, they fought a close battle to eventually go down by one shot.
Chad Beech was in Gwyn Beynon's rink and enjoyed the experience. Without losing the lead, they came home by nine shots.
With Craig Guymer giving a great display at third and young Scott Meades under the guidance of Tony Powling acquitting himself well, Mike's crew came home by five shots.
Saundersfoot Juniors' captain James Criddle gave a good account of himself for the home side. It was a great game played in good spirit, and enjoyable for the juniors.
Rink scores (Five Arches first, St. Brides skips only):
J. Taylor, C. Beech, J. Best, G. Beynon 23; T. Osborne 14.
T. Powling, S. Meads, C. Guymer, M. Crockford 22; M. Brewer 17.

PEMBROKE DOCK 101 (12 pts.)
FIVE ARCHES 61 (2)
Pembroke Dock is never a happy hunting ground for any of the Tenby sides. They always produce a strong all-round team, although the Arches were pleased to come away with two points.
It was one of those games when everything went wrong for Ray Holly and his foursome, with the home side picking up 16 shots between the fourth and seventh end, including the dreaded full house. For Gerald Hewitt this must be something of a record, as this season he has been in two rinks that picked up counts of eight and now in one that dropped an eight. Worse things happen at sea.
Home captain Dave Burns and his rink were always in control against Dai and his men, with Dave and Doug valiantly fighting a rearguard action.
By the ninth end, Roy Powling's foursome were 12 shots to two up. Then the wheels came off the trolley and they stayed on 12 for nine ends, but they didn't give up the battle and came back strongly to eventually go down by one shot.
Strong second halves by Craig and Bert ensured that Mike's crew stole a six shots win, to at least ensure the visitors came home with some points. The team has to now secure some more points from the rest of the season to ensure safety in the premier league.
Rink scores (Five Arches first, Pembroke Dock skips only):
J. Best, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 18; H. Hanger 19.
C. Guymer, B. Barnikel, P. Hooper, M. Crockford 21; R. Pointon 15.
J. Taylor, G. Hill, D. Silcox, D. King Thomas 10; D. Burns 31.
N. Dickinson, S. Smith, G. Hewitt, R. Holly 12; L. Davies 35.

Rink scores (Tenby Ladies first, Neyland skips only) were:

SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 39
On a beautiful warm afternoon, Tenby Ladies welcomed Saundersfoot Ladies.
Joan Dorling's rink had a neck and neck game against Joan Lee and her trio. It was fought in very good humour and spirits, with the scores drawing level on the last end.
Mair Marquiss's rink was not so lucky, losing by seven shots.
Rink scores (Tenby Ladies first, Saundersfoot skips only) were:
P. Jones, L. Evans, P. Barnikel, J. Dorling 19; J. Lee 19.

TENBY LADIES 40 CLEDDAU 51
On a scorching hot afternoon on the Tenby green, Mair Marquiss's rink did well to beat Ann Thomas's team on the last end. Their opponents were holding shots, when Mair came in on the jack and ended winning by two. The other Tenby team were not so lucky and went down by 13 shots.
