As the colder months are upon us once more, a small Pembrokeshire group is out in our beautiful county swimming in the sea!
Where others are retreating to the warmth of the pool as their season has ended, the Bluetits season has just begun. The Bluetits are a group that swims all year round chasing the thrill of the chill and excitement and freedom of swimming without the wetsuit.
There are over 50 members stretching the county from Tenby to St. Davids and also include a group from the Gower that meet regularly at Rhossili.
The group from Tenby heads out most days and is led by Tracey, Deanna and Miffany. The group from St. Davids also heads out most days and is led by Sian and Penny.
Please get in contact with them if you would like to have a try at cold water swimming - Sian in St. Davids 07917006012 or Tracey in Tenby 07772765839. They are also on Facebook as a community group if you wish to get in touch.
It’s still early days, but it’s going to be fun finding out just what temperature the sea will be. So far, the group has managed to get involved with some local and not so local events that have been skin swimmer friendly.
The Solva Swim to the Edge run by Man Up UK was the starting point. Seven Bluetits in total, including Sian, Rene, Penny, Tara, Elfie, JCB and Tracey took on the challenge. This was Tracey’s first non-wetsuit event and Tara, Elfie, JCB and Rene’s first-ever event! Everyone loved it and was so thankful for Man Up who very kindly let themswim without the wetsuit. Thank you!
The second swim took Tracey to Abersoch to do the 1.2-mile sea swim course run by USWIM. A beautiful and very friendly race with lots happening for the children also. The same day took Sian, Ella and Camilla up to the river Dart to do the Dart 10k swim, again a very well-respected and well-run swim with a very different type of finisher medal for all.
The latest event saw Sian, Ella, Jemima and Tracey all take on the Llangorse lake swim in Brecon, each doing different distances. Both Sian and Ella took on the 6k skin swim and Tracey and Jemima took on the 1.5k skin swim. The temperature was just below the 15 degrees, but felt colder! The Bluetits did well, with both Sian and Ella earning second and third place in the 6k skin race and Tracey earning a first in the 1.5 skin and fourth overall.
Well done girls!
