Gerry and his wife Joyce from Chester, regulars holidaying in Amroth for the last 27 years, were celebrating Gerry's 82nd birthday, and he could not conceal his delight at being the lucky winner of the week's holiday for six people anywhere in the UK, courtesy of Seasons' Holidays.
Amazingly, having sold over 1,000 raffle tickets to many locals and visitors, both the top prize and second prize, a trip for two to Skomer Island, won by Roland Edwards, of Cresselly, were both enjoying the curry, provided by the Amroth Arms prior to the draw being made.
The Macmillan raffle was backed by Barclays Bank, who pledged match funding of up to £750.
The event proved to be very successful, raising over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Once again, the committee is indebted to local people and visitors who continually give them their unrelenting support, and in particular to the generosity and commitment of the New Inn and the Amroth Arms.
Forthcoming events in aid of Macmillan are the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to be held in Kilgetty Village Hall today (Friday) and at Colby Lodge, Amroth, tomorrow (Saturday), 10 am - 12 noon.
On Saturday, November 15, at 8 pm, there will be 50s/60s back to school prom at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, featuring the Frantic Five and Deep Joy, together with traditional 'school dinner' and a 50s/60s memorabilia raffle.
Get old friends together, search the loft for raffle items and go and let your hair down to the sound of the 50s/60s. Tickets available from the Queen's Hall or contact (01834) 810360.
