A man was airlifted to hospital on Sunday afternoon after he was injured whilst kite sliding on Tenby's South Beach.

Despite advice from local enthusiasts that he was using a blade too large for the north-westerly force six winds affecting the area, 26-year-old Neil Muncey was seen jumping and sliding, a variation on kite boarding, on the beach using a 6.4 flexifoil blade.

The wind lifted him approximately 20-feet into the air and then pitched him forward and he plummeted down onto the hard-packed sand.

Members of the public responded to his plight and an ambulance was called.

Tenby paramedic Mike Tebbutt and EMT Adrian Alman duly requested coastguard assistance to evacuate the casualty from the beach.

During the course of stabilising the casualty's injuries, it was decided to summon the assistance of the air ambulance 'Helimed 11'.

The air ambulance landed on the beach and evacuated the casualty, who was believed to be on holiday in the area and was from Farnborough, to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.
