History came alive in Tenby on Saturday as members of the historical re-enactment society, the Sealed Knot, re-created a battle of the 17th Century English Civil War on the town's North Beach.

Over 100 members of the society travelled to the resort from all over Great Britain for the special event, which was sponsored by the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism.

Crowds gathered around the town to watch the Royalists, in colourful period costume, parade from the North Beach car park to Tudor Square where proclamations were made, before a messenger arrived with the news that the Parliamentarians had landed and the group made their way down to the North Beach to see them off.

During the skirmish, there was firing of muskets and cannons which shook the town, flashing blades of swords and lining up of pikes, accompanied by drums and bugle calls and expert commentary.

Following the skirmish, members returned to draw weapons in the evening and the following day at their base camp at Carew.
