The banners were out when blind walker Wendy Jones arrived at Amroth last Thursday at the end of her marathon Pembrokeshire Coast Path walk. Wendy, and her sighted friend, Elly Morgan, were joined by several friends with visual impairments, and their guide dogs, for the last lap from Tenby to Amroth and by others who had walked various sections and helped them along the route. Also joining them were the chairman of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Clr. Stephen Watkins, and authority members, Clrs. Rosemary Hayes and Tony Brinsden. The intrepid Coast Path walkers completed the 186 miles in 28 days and raised substantial funds for the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society (Fighting Blindness). Said Wendy: "It has been a fantastic experience and everyone has been so supportive along the way. We were provided with accommodation at every stage and I would like to thank all who have helped us, including the National Park rangers and voluntary wardens." At Amroth, refreshments were provided in the grounds of the New Inn and Wendy and Elly were presented with special Coast Path certificates and other mementos. There was special praise for Lesley Jones, who co-ordinated the walk arrangements for the National Park Authority.
