Donkeys are to stage a comeback on the beaches of Tenby. Almost a decade after they were once a regular attraction, donkey rides are set to be a feature of the sands this summer. The return of the traditional beach attraction is part of a bid by Pembrokeshire County Council to increase activities on the popular resort's beaches. Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sports, leisure tourism and cultural services said donkey rides were part and parcel of the traditional seaside holiday. "They were once a popular attraction on our beaches, particularly with children and we think they still have a role to play in helping rejuvenate modern day tourism." Donkey rides were piloted on South Beach in Tenby last summer and were such a success that it was decided to bring them back to both North Beach and South Beach this year. Adverts for Donkey Concessions are going out to the press this week. The return of the animals is just one of many initiatives being introduced by the county council on Tenby's beaches this summer. Alongside the traditional rides, visitors will also be offered a range of watersports activities.
