The Pembrokeshire coroner, Mr. Michael Howells, yesterday (Thursday), concluded an inquest into the death of a 56-year-old Angle woman. The court was told that Carol Anne Scobie, of 1 West Court, had been found dead at her home on Friday, July 20, after apparently suffering a fall. The coroner's officer, Mr. Delme Davies, stated that the deceased was born in Edinburgh and was a retired civil servant twice married. Mrs. Scobie was highly thought of in the village and was actively involved in many of its activities. She was preparing for the coming wedding of one of her sons and had, the previous day, been shopping in Carmarthen. A lady who kept four dogs, she was an early riser, and it appeared quite out of character to a neighbour and friend, Mrs. Marlene Thompson, that her window curtains remained drawn in the afternoon. She alerted another neighbour, Mrs. Sonia Ebsworth, who knocked on the front door, but failed to get a reply, although a dog was heard barking. She returned later and gained entry through the back kitchen door which was unlocked and three of the dogs were there. On exploring further she discovered Mrs. Scobie at the bottom of the stairs, obviously dead and still in her night clothes and, apparently, having fallen head first down the stairs. A report of a full and complete post mortem examination carried out by Dr. Dadyr revealed fractures of the neck and skull conducive with a fall and which would have led to respiratory failure. Returning a narrative verdict, Mr. Howells concluded that the deceased had died from injuries sustained in a fall at her home.
