On the eve of St. David's Day, 20 people gathered in St. Elidyrs Church, Amroth, to sing Evensong. There then followed a Fun Evening and party in the Amroth Arms.

After a generous helping of cawl and Welsh cakes the gathering was entertained by Dennis Reed (alias 'Arnold'), who took the liberty of lampooning the regulars, including Mick, Rhys, Roger, Brenda and even the vicar, much to the amusement of the crowd!

Canon Michael Butler then presented a cheque for nearly £2,500 to guest for the evening, Professor Colin Green, who heads the research into the causes of cot death, at the Northwich Institute for Scientific Research based at Harrow in London.

The money had been raised over the Christmas period in Amroth with the programme of a coffee morning, a raffle, sponsored Christmas tree angels and a display of remembrance lilies in the church, finishing with the New Year's Day Swim.

Professor Green is a much travelled man and has recently returned from lecture tours in California and Singapore. He explained the aims of the research programme, and the results and recommendations published to date. He told how the money would be used to augment the bursaries of the post graduate students who do the work of carrying out the research as part of their PhD qualification.
